Ghana’s Telcos Roll Out 10–15% Data Boost

Telecommunication providers in Ghana have begun implementing a government-driven initiative that grants users an extra 10% to 15% more data all without increasing the price effective July 1, 2025.

With growing public concerns about expensive internet plans, the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation led this plan to make data more affordable, especially for youth, entrepreneurs, and online learners.

MTN Ghana rolled out a 15% data increase across all bundles. Their high-end GHS 399 plan now offers 214 GB, up from 92.9 GB.

Telecel Ghana and AT (formerly AirtelTigo) each applied a 10% boost to their packages:

  • AT: Their GHS 400 bundle now gives 236 GB, up from 195 GB  .
  • Telecel: Their GHS 400 plan went from 90 GB to 250 GB a whopping 178% increase.

Minister Sam George directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to oversee implementation.

Telcos informed users ahead of time through SMS alerts and app notifications, paving the way for a smooth transition to the improved data plans.

Consumer advocacy groups have lauded the move as a win for digital inclusion, applauding the government’s commitment to equitable access.

Ghana’s telcos are now delivering significantly more data without extra cost is a big win for consumers. This strategic boost, backed by government oversight, is designed to lessen the burden of expensive data and advance nationwide digital equity.
