Sergio Busquets Announces Retirement

Spanish midfield great Sergio Busquets has confirmed that he will retire from professional football at the end of the current MLS season with Inter Miami.
 
A Poignant Exit

In a heartfelt video message shared on Instagram, Busquets opened up about his decision, saying:

“I feel that the time has come to say goodbye … It has been almost 20 years enjoying this incredible story I always dreamed of.”

He added that he will retire “very happy, proud, fulfilled—and above all, grateful.”

A Storied Career

From La Masia to Barça Legend

Busquets rose through FC Barcelona’s youth system, making his first-team debut in 2008 and going on to represent the club for 18 years.
He amassed more than 700 appearances for Barça, winning countless trophies including 9 La Liga championships, 3 UEFA Champions League titles, and multiple domestic cups.

Inter Miami and MLS Success

In 2023, Busquets moved to the U.S. to join Inter Miami, reuniting with former Barcelona teammates such as Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suárez.
During his stint there, he added the Leagues Cup and the Supporters’ Shield to his legacy.
International Glory with Spain

On the international stage, Busquets earned 143 caps for Spain and played a key role in the national team’s triumphant runs, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012.
He had already stepped away from international duties in December 2022 before turning his focus fully to club football.
